Essential facts about Thassos island

Every island in Greece is an adventure and unique place. Friends ask me all the time, which island is more beautiful, that one or that one. These places are like children, you just can’t compare them. When speaking about Thassos, sure I can rate its greatness as one of the most beautiful locations ih whole Greece

The island lies in Aegian sea in north-eastern part of Greece. Thassos is not so popular destination for tourists, and I think its good, thus its natural beauty is still intact.

Unfortunately this could be changed in next ten years.. This summer a few small beautiful beaches dissapeared in favor of newly built hotels.

Thassos is often described as “floating forest”. Pine tree is a trade mark of Thassos, because it covers bigger part of island.

Imagine your holidays in authentic atmoshpere surounded with perfect clean sea, refreshing forest air, enjoying in tastes of delicious food prepared in perfect olive oil and the best honey I have ever tasted.

Thassos has so many beautiful beaches, and its hard to visit all of them in ten days. Whatever side of island you choose for accomodation you cannot be wrong. Every side has its beautiful sandy beaches with shallow turqouise blue water, and its up to you to decide which one will be your little paradise.

The sea is warm until october, and if you like peaceful holiday Thassos is a perfect destination even in september.

I think sun belongs to Thassos. Its hard to describe the beauty of sunrises and sunsets on this island.

The nightlife on Thassos is not so wild as is maybe on other islands. In fact, except Limenas there is not much night clubs. That maybe sounds dissapointing, but if you prefer wild parties and such things, I don’t think this island is for you.

Thassos is a big and its hard to get around without car, or scooter. Public transporation is also an option, and unlike some others destinations in Greece, here is pretty reliable. Every place or beach has its bus station, and a single ticket is around 1 euro.

Only way to get here is by ferry. Fortunately Thassos has no airport, and that fact keeps this place clean and quite. Ferries depart from Keramoti and Kavala where is the closest airport located.

Thassos is a cheap place to stay and to enjoy. That could be one more reason to attract you to this beautiful land. I ll point you to specific prices in further posts, but keep in mind that whole Macedonia region in Greece is much cheaper than western, or south coasts.
