Where to stay on Thassos island

There’s accomodation all over the island and here I ll try to give you some tips about specific locations. Thassos has only one main road (a circle road around whole island) and all places you can stay are on the sea shore, which is good for you.

We have visited Thassos twice in past 3 years, and both times our choice was a village Potos.

Potos is located in south-western part of island. It is quite and small place but it has everything you need. First, the beach is wide and if you’re lazy you can always come here, and in worst case it is just a couple minutes walk from your accomodation.

The resort itself has something to offer all ages. There is a lot restaurants and bars, and its easy to find some place that suite your tastes.

Also, Potos has a lot rental agencies so you have a freedom to choose where to rent your car.

Here you can buy everything you need during your vacation, and stuffs like souvenirs before you leave. Keep in mind that postcards, cups, flags...are much cheaper here than in Limenas. One of our favorite places in Potos is a bakery :) where you can buy delicious cakes, also you should try a perfect rolls with sunflower beans.

Limenaria is a little town located nearby Potos. Only 3-4 kilometers is a distance between them.

If we haven’t had a room in Potos Limenaria would be a second option. Both places are close to some really nice beaches like Pefkari, Metalia, San Antonio...and if you’re not a driver, don’t think about staying anywhere else. You can stroll to this beaches everyday or even rent a bike.

Further to north there is one more nice place to stay - Scala Prinou. It is small village, and it has a tight little beach. Nearby is Astpas beach (Sugar beach), and along romantic promenade around the bay, this perfect beach is enough reason to attract you to find accomodation right here.

Limenas is also known as Thassos town. We do love Limenas, but I hardly can say it is town. Don’t be surprised about its size, because Limenas is realy small place. Personaly, we don’t like to stay anywhere at places where the ports are located. Though water here is surprisingly clean, I think all places in text above and below are far more better for accomodation than Limenas. Here, you can enjoy strolling, fishing and you can drink an excellent coffee.

If you are seeking a quiter places to stay there are bungalows two kilometers from Limenas called Makryamos, and also places around Golden beach bay. Makryamos is only resort on whole island where you have to pay to get on its beach. For about 3 euros you can enjoy in peace and incredible impressive beach.

Golden beach stands for one of most popular beaches on Thassos. If you stay close to places you will go often, and Golden beach could be one of them, seems like a perfect option, right ? Stores and shopping are all around and the beach is right there, what else you’re gonna need ?:)
